12″ Helical Piling Foundation Install For a Brewery in Surrey BC
Helical Pile Foundation Project
In early 2021, TerraCana was contacted by a general contractor (GC) in need of installing 16” diameter helical piles inside a brewery in Surrey. The proposed piles would be supporting a new steel framing and a second level being installed in this already functioning facility. The piles had to be installed within in a tight timeframe to keep the project on track.
As the piles were being installed in a functioning facility, TerraCana had to install the pile within inches of existing equipment, some of it valued in the millions. In addition, the installation tolerances had to be on point to ensure the load transfer from the steel framing to the piling.
Working closely with the GC, engineers, and steel fabricators, the pile size, helix configuration, and termination plates were all revised through multiple iterations and group problem solving. The revised piles could be placed closer to existing columns, would be less costly, faster to install, and were easier to connect to the steel framing. The GC also went to great lengths to ensure they stayed ahead of our team removing the slab and some substantial footings. Through some excellent team work and ingenuity from all involved, the piles were installed and allowed the project to proceed on track
